Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pudding
In a large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened. Let it sit for 5 minutes so it fully sets. Place it in the refrigerator while you prepare the remaining components.
Step 2: Whip the Cream
In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft, fluffy peaks form. Be careful not to overwhipβyou want it light and airy, not stiff or grainy.
Step 3: Prepare the Fruit
Slice the bananas just before assembling to prevent browning. Hull and slice the strawberries, patting them dry gently with a paper towel to avoid excess moisture in the layers.
Step 4: Assemble the Layers
In a trifle bowl or individual dessert cups, begin layering:
- Cake or cookies on the bottom
- A layer of vanilla pudding
- A layer of bananas
- A layer of strawberries
- A layer of whipped cream
Repeat the layers until the container is full, finishing with whipped cream on top.
Step 5: Chill
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2β4 hours, or overnight for best flavor. This resting time allows the layers to meld together beautifully.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Just before serving, decorate with fresh fruit, whipped cream swirls, or crushed cookies for texture and visual appeal.
