  • Author: Shirley
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred for vibrant color)
  • Red heart sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

Prepare the Cookie Dough

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Egg and Extracts: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Color the Dough: Add green food coloring a few drops at a time, mixing until you achieve the desired shade of Grinch green.

Shape and Bake

  1. Scoop Dough: Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to drop dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Add Heart Sprinkles: Press one red heart sprinkle into the center of each dough ball.
  3. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.
  4. Cool: Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
