Crockpot Apple Butter

  • Author: Shirley

Description

A rich, slow-cooked apple spread made effortlessly in the slow cooker. This Crockpot Apple Butter develops deep flavor as the apples caramelize and soften into a smooth, cinnamon-spiced treat.

Ingredients

• 5.5 pounds sweet apples, cored and chopped

• 1 cup brown sugar

• ¾ cup granulated sugar

• 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

• pinch of salt

• 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Place the chopped apples into the crockpot.

2. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

3. Stir everything together until the apples are evenly coated.

4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and darkened in color.

5. Remove the lid and blend the mixture with an immersion blender until smooth (or carefully transfer to a blender in batches).

6. Continue cooking uncovered on low for another 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thick and spreadable.

7. Stir in the vanilla extract at the end of cooking.

8. Let cool slightly, then transfer to sterilized jars.

9. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.
