  • Author: Shirley
  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Gather the following ingredients to make your Gingerbread Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Baking Pan:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix the Wet Ingredients:

  1. Combine the Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth and well combined.
  2. Add the Molasses and Eggs: Stir in the molasses, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until everything is well incorporated.

Combine the Dry Ingredients:

  1. Whisk the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, baking powder, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

  1. Mix Together: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  2. Add Chocolate Chips (Optional): If using, fold in the dark chocolate chips.

Bake the Brownies:

  1. Transfer to the Baking Pan: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  2. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few crumbs. The brownies should be set but fudgy.

Cool and Serve:

  1. Cool: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Serve: Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy!
