HOMEMADE COCA COLA RECIPE Caramelized Sugar Syrup with Spices and Citrus

  • Author: Shirley

Description

A rich, homemade cola-style syrup made with caramelized brown sugar, warm spices, and citrus peels.
Mix with ice and soda water for a refreshing fizzy drink.

Ingredients

• 2 cups brown sugar, caramelized

• 1 cup water

• 2 cinnamon sticks

• Small pieces of lemon peel, lime peel and orange peel

• 1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds

• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

• Soda water

• Ice

Instructions

1. In a heavy-bottom saucepan, heat the brown sugar over low-medium heat, stirring frequently for 3–5 minutes until it begins to melt and darken slightly.

2. Carefully pour in the 1 cup of water and stir continuously until the melted sugar dissolves completely into the water, then bring to a gentle simmer.

3. Add the cinnamon sticks, lemon, lime, and orange peels, coriander seeds, and ground nutmeg to the simmering liquid.

4. Continue simmering for 5–10 minutes until the syrup slightly reduces and becomes thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

5. Pour the hot syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a clean glass jar, discarding the solids and peels.

6. Let the syrup cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator.

7. For each glass, combine about 1 tablespoon of the cooled syrup with ice and fill to the top with soda water.

8. Stir well and adjust the amount of syrup to your preferred sweetness.
