Ingredients
Scale
Gather the following ingredients to make Popeyes Cajun Fries:
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or olive oil)
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
Prep the Potatoes:
- Peel and Cut the Potatoes: Peel the russet potatoes (optional) and cut them into thin fries or wedges, depending on your preference. Aim for evenly-sized pieces for consistent cooking.
- Soak the Fries: Place the cut fries into a large bowl of cold water and soak them for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps the fries become crispier when cooked.
- Drain and Dry: After soaking, drain the water and pat the fries dry with a clean towel to ensure they’re as dry as possible.
Prepare the Seasoning Mix:
- Mix the Spices: In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to mix evenly.
Season the Fries:
- Coat with Oil and Seasoning: Toss the dried fries in vegetable oil, making sure they’re evenly coated. Then, sprinkle the seasoning mix over the fries and toss them again until they are fully coated with the spice mixture.
Cook the Fries:
- In the Oven (Baking): Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the seasoned fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- In the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the seasoned fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crispy and golden.
Serve and Garnish:
- Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, remove the fries from the oven or air fryer and transfer them to a serving plate. Optionally, sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
