Slow Cooker Cabbage, Potatoes, and Smoked Sausage: A Hearty One-Pot Meal

  • Author: Shirley
  • Total Time: 0 hours

Ingredients

Scale

    • ½ head cabbage, cut into chunks

    • 56 potatoes, cut into chunks (peeled or unpeeled, your preference)

    • 1 lb smoked sausage, cut into pieces (such as Hillshire Farm, Kielbasa, or Andouille)

    • Salt and pepper, to taste

    • Water, enough to fill the slow cooker about halfway (or use chicken/vegetable broth for extra flavor)

Instructions

    1. Prepare the Ingredients: Cut the cabbage into large chunks. Peel (if desired) and chop the potatoes into similar-sized pieces to ensure even cooking. Slice the smoked sausage into bite-sized rounds or half-moons.

    1. Assemble in the Slow Cooker: Add the prepared cabbage, potatoes, and smoked sausage pieces to the slow cooker.

    1. Season: Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

    1. Add Liquid: Pour in enough water (or broth) to fill the slow cooker about halfway. This helps the vegetables steam and cook evenly, keeping them tender.

    1. Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on High for about 4 hours or on Low for about 6 hours. The dish is ready when the potatoes are fork-tender and the cabbage is soft.

    1. Serve: Gently stir the contents of the slow cooker. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed. Serve hot for a cozy, comforting meal.
