Instructions
Prepare the Apple Filling
Begin by peeling and dicing the apples into small cubes — the smaller the cubes, the faster they cook and the more evenly they distribute inside each pastry bomb.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once it begins to foam slightly, add the diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir everything together until the apples release their juices and the sugars begin to dissolve into a glossy mixture.
Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft but not mushy. You’re looking for a texture similar to warm apple pie filling — tender but still holding shape.
Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly before assembling the bombs.
2. Prepare the Dough
Open the biscuit or crescent dough package and separate the pieces. If using biscuit dough, flatten each circle slightly with your palm to create more space for filling. If using crescent dough, pinch the seams together to form one smooth surface.
Each portion of dough will become one Apple Caramel Bomb, so make sure they are evenly sized.
3. Fill with Apple + Caramel
Place 1–2 tablespoons of the apple filling in the center of each dough piece. Add one soft caramel candy (or a spoonful of thick caramel sauce) on top of the apple mixture.
This creates the molten caramel center that makes these bombs unforgettable.
Fold the dough around the filling, pinch the seams well, and shape into a smooth ball. Make sure the dough is sealed completely to prevent caramel from leaking during baking.
4. Add Cinnamon Sugar Coating (Optional but Recommended)
In a small bowl, mix:
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Brush each dough ball lightly with egg wash (or melted butter) and roll it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
This gives the bombs a sweet, crisp exterior.
5. Bake to Golden Perfection
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place each Apple Caramel Bomb seam-side down on the baking sheet, leaving space between each ball.
Bake for 14–18 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly puffed.
As they bake, the dough becomes tender and golden, the apples soften further, and the caramel melts into a molten core that explodes with flavor when you bite in.
6. Finish with Warm Caramel Drizzle
Once out of the oven, drizzle the bombs with warm caramel sauce.
This step adds shine, sweetness, and a bakery-level finish.
Allow them to cool slightly — caramel gets VERY hot — then serve warm.
