Instructions
tep 1: Prepare the Pudding Base
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together:
- Instant vanilla pudding mix
- Cold milk
Whisk for about 1–2 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly. You don’t want it fully set—just smooth and beginning to hold shape.
This base provides structure so the fluff doesn’t become soupy.
Step 2: Add the Creamy Elements
Once the pudding has thickened slightly:
- Gently fold in the sour cream or vanilla yogurt (if using)
- Then fold in the whipped topping
Use a spatula and light motions—do not stir aggressively. You want to preserve the airiness of the whipped topping.
At this stage, the mixture should be smooth, fluffy, and cloud-like.
Step 3: Prepare the Fruit
This step is critical for texture.
- Drain the pineapple extremely well
Press it in a strainer or squeeze gently with paper towels. - Slice bananas just before folding them in
This helps prevent browning. - Chop strawberries into small, bite-sized pieces
Too much liquid from fruit is the biggest enemy of fluff desserts, so take your time here.
Step 4: Fold in Fruit and Mix-Ins
Gently fold in:
- Crushed pineapple
- Strawberries
- Bananas
- Mini chocolate chips
- Nuts (if using)
- Chopped cherries (if using)
Fold until evenly distributed, but stop as soon as everything is combined.
The mixture should be thick, creamy, colorful, and irresistible.
Step 5: Chill Before Serving
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
This allows:
- Flavors to meld
- Pudding to fully set
- Texture to firm up slightly
You can chill it for up to 24 hours, making it ideal for make-ahead prep.
